Doll’s Eyes
Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year. It’s the one holiday that really is all about fun. I love getting dressed up in costume, I love watching scary movies. I love scaring and being scared. No other holiday permits getting away with being silly, or weird, or creepy. It just feels right that we reserve a day to unleash a bit of our shadow-side.
My daughter, Alayssa bought some specialty contact lenses to compliment her costume this year. This girl already has naturally beautiful big blue eyes, and these contacts compliment her nicely. When she came down to my office to show me, I had to break out my camera and lights.
It was a great experiment in low-light portraits, and Alayssa was a great sport for the spur-of-the-moment. I feel like I’m getting better at settling into “photographer mode”. She was having trouble holding her expressions, and I had to direct her a little bit. In those moments I had to stop being her dad and step into a more professional role. She and I tend to be pretty silly with each other, but I had to refrain from that in order to get the shots I wanted.
